Summer is a Great Time for Your Business!

Ahh……Summertime.  Good vibes, warm air and so many fun activities!  Water balloon fights, having a picnic in the park, laying under a beach umbrella, going wine tasting, reading a book by the pool, and attending outdoor concerts are just a few cool things to do during the warmest time of the year. As kids, the minute the school bell rang and the big doors opened, we were off and running knowing the last day of school was upon us until the Fall.

As adults, unless we are retired or off to the beach for a family vacation, we are continuing to set our alarms, roll out of bed, have our coffee, and drive to our place of employment. Whatever season it is, many of us still need to earn our paychecks, rain or shine.  While our families may be planning summer vacations, many of our businesses are planning for their seasons.  Whether you own a surf school, an ice cream shop, or a patio furniture store, you know how business can get slow during the off-season. To keep consumers engaged (and buying) all year long, some businesses use marketing ideas such as offering off-season specials or reaching out to existing customers and offering them special packages for next season.

What are some of the advantages of seasonality?  According to Unitedcapitalsource.com, “Many entrepreneurs found success by turning setbacks into opportunities. Seasonality is no exception. After all, one of the most significant hardships of small businesses is unpredictability. Though seasonality presents a host of risks, at least you can see them coming.” One of the benefits of having a seasonal business includes being less likely to procrastinate.  Seasonal businesses operate on a set schedule, knowing when to ramp up or pull back on their spending.  Seasonal businesses also have time to strategize and prepare for their busy time of the year.

While many of us adults work year-round, there’s nothing wrong with encouraging the younger members of our families to make some extra money over summer vacation.   Setting up a neighborhood lemonade or an ice cream stand is one of the most classic business ideas for our young entrepreneurs. Getting the hose out and washing a neighbor’s car, cleaning swimming pools, mowing lawns, babysitting at the pool, and tutoring are amongst the most popular ways for our “summer vacationers” to make an extra buck.

Whether you work full time, part time, are a stay at home parent, or are retired, enjoy the sensational summer season.  Split your popsicle in half and share it with your best friend.  Finish your ice cream cone before it melts.  Be that kid again that was so excited to finally be out for summer vacation.  Here’s to a successful summer both in your personal and professional life.

We started using Informed Delivery by USPS!

We started using Informed Delivery mid-April and wanted to tell you about this added value feature. Every client is getting this with no additional fee. It is just part of the service we provide you.

The USPS Informed Delivery program allows consumers to sign up for free and it lets you digitally preview your mail and manage your packages.

In one month, there were 256,686 Informed Delivery emails sent to our mail recipients. Of that, 177,253 were opened. This means, 69% of the new movers that use this service knew the mailing from Welcome Wagon with your ad in it, is arriving to them soon.

The recipients typically get a greyscale image of the front of the envelope but we want to stand out in the email, so our notice looks what you see above.

Another positive effect, we have seen an increase in the Mobile App downloads which gives people another opportunity to use your business or service!

Good Works in the Community

By Jennifer Troyan

This month we are featuring a really wonderful organization and an event that happened in April. We love our fur babies and a few of us recently had an opportunity to participate in the 5th Annual H.A.L.O’s Chase Your Tail 5K Run/Walk in Sebastian Beach, FL.

The race benefited H.A.L.O. No-Kill Rescue. We did the walk part. It was a gorgeous morning and we walked through a beautiful neighborhood and along the water. It doesn’t get better than that!

A special thank you to two beautiful people, Alane (Welcome Wagon Alumni) and Melissa (my Sister).

They have pets for adoption and foster opportunities. You can get involved in many ways by attending an event, sponsorship or donations.

Their site shares its mission:

Helping Animals Live and Overcome (H.A.L.O.) provides a no-kill safe haven where extraordinary measures are taken to save homeless pets and protect them from abuse and neglect. H.A.L.O. believes in engaging our community by providing resources, education, and programs to do the same.

Their vision:

To create a world with no more homeless pets.

We just had to tell you about them!

Business Spotlight

We are honored to feature American Home Protect (AHP) as our Business Spotlight. Seeing a need to help people with a high-quality home warranty service, American Home Protect was founded in 2016. After five years of growth, they joined Porch in September 2021 and look forward to much-continued success.

Why do we need a home warranty plan? In general, there is a wide misconception that a   homeowner’s insurance policy is enough. However, this is not the case. American Home Protect is a home warranty service contract that protects your home from the chaos that can come with repairing or replacing essential everyday items in your home. Their 3-year plans cover many items in your home that, through normal wear and tear, can break down over time such as refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, range/ovens, clothes washer/dryer, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, swimming pools, and more. These items can be expensive to fix or replace and oftentimes, come as an unexpected emergency.

Another exceptional benefit to the homeowner with an AHP plan is the service of a handyman without the big price tag. A trustworthy and vetted handyman can be just as essential to a home needing small repairs. They can help with anything from floors to sprinklers to hanging pictures and anything in between.

American Home Protect works directly with your local repair providers and technicians who live and work in the same communities which help keep the communities growing and moving forward. They are rated A+ and accredited by the Better Business Bureau and accredited with the NHSCA (National Home Service Contract Association).

American Home Protect is committed to the well-being of all communities all year round. During Thanksgiving, they give a turkey to their employees and local food banks. For the Holiday season, many employees contribute to Toys for Tots® and they also help with back-to-school supplies. They are thrilled to be part of the Welcome Wagon family and look forward to continued growth and partnership.
